Nothing beats a home-cooked meal shared with family! And this is what inspires our Family Style Cookery Classes, a fun, laid-back homestyle cooking experience. Here, you will learn to prepare different dishes and then enjoy them with people who, like you, fuel our mission of supporting refugee and migrant chefs on their journey to integration. It’s a cookery class with a conscience, like they say!
Your class will be led by our wonderful Chef Amro from Egypt at in Peckham, London.
At our Family Style Cookery Classes, you will be grouped with other participants and prepare dishes together as a team. Think of Chef Amro as the head of the family! He will take care of dividing the class into groups, and each group will be responsible for creating one of the dishes. Of course, you are welcome and encouraged to move around during the class to learn about the other dishes being prepared. Throughout the evening, Chef Amro will share stories about their food and culture, and explain how to prepare each of the dishes so you come away with some new cooking tricks and inspiration from Egypt. You will also be emailed the recipes after the class.
Menu, subject to change:
This menu is mostly vegetarian but contains one dish that contains meat (lamb) with vegetarian filling options. Allergens include: gluten, sulphites, milk, tree nuts, peanuts, sesame, soya.

A message from our Chef Amro:
“Hello, my name is Amro and I am from Egypt - from the North. My city, Damitta, is famous for furniture, sweets and cheese. I am from a large family and I am the only boy with three sisters.
After I graduated from university as a computer engineer, I went to work in Kuwait. I worked there for 17 years in the Ministry of Education and the University of Kuwait before I moved to the UK in 2023 with my wife and my two children (I now have three)!
When I was at home in Egypt, it was always my mother who did the cooking. Although I didn’t cook then, I learnt a lot from watching her. But when I was living alone in Kuwait, especially for the first 3 years before I married, I had to learn how to cook for myself!
As I spent half of my life in Egypt and the other half in Kuwait, I have influences from both countries in my cooking. For example, from my home country, a famous dish that everyone there loves is Koshary - a delicious vegetarian dish. And from Kuwai, I enjoy cooking Majboos, a lamb dish with raisins and nuts, which is often served for big celebrations.
I look forward to cooking these dishes with you”.
We’re excited to have you in the class! Please take note of a few final reminders:
